1. Best Feature Film Screenplay
This category is specific to those who truly believe they have the next big feature film
screenplay that Hollywood's been waiting for. (Note: All submissions are eligible to win
your screenplay made into a feature film on the highly anticipated Red One Camera.

2. Best Short Film Screenplay
Our Best Short Film Screenplay category is for those enticed to create short
screenplays that can be seen as either shorts (1 - 30 minutes in length), tv pilots,
teleplays, and/or web series shorts. Our grand prize for this category will be a chance
to have your short film produced with a cast and production crew using the Red One
Camera.

3. Best Comedic Screenplay
Comedy makes us laugh when we most need it. With every joke comes a punch-line
and with that said Moving Image is seeking new work which packs in that extra punch.
We are looking for comedies that tell more than just a joke - more like the life of a joke
and it's philosophical ideals. Under the "Comedic Screenplay" category you may want
to consider some of these sub genres when submitting; parody, satire, romantic
comedy, screwball/slapstick comedy, and dark comedy etc.

4. Best Horror Screenplay
There is something lurking around us feeding off the taste of a kill or a thrill and
Moving Image is out to get it. Moving Image is searching for screenplays that can
deliver the best in horror and thrillers. In the "Horror Screenplay" category you may
want to consider some of these sub genres when submitting; uncanny horrors, where
the defining element of horror is based on a rational explanation, supernatural horror,
where horror is based on illogical or irrational phenomenon, and the super-uncanny,
where the audience is made to guess between the two possibilities or other ones.

5. Best Experimental/Art House Screenplay
Art is but a manifesto of the human condition, or is it? We interpret cinema and film in
so many ways that sometimes we are not sure if we have critically interpreted art or
simply embraced it for what it is. Moving Image seeks work which pushes the
envelope from the traditional ways we interpret cinema and/or film. When writing your
screenplay think about the "Moving Image" and other elements which may make the
film more avant-garde, including editing, displacement of time, structure of
storytelling, and other key factors. Under the "Experimental/ Art House Screenplay"
category you may want to consider some of these sub -genres when submitting;
minimalism, anti-structure, anti-plot, experimental documentaries, art house /
experimental dramas, experimental love stories, political dramas etc.

6. Best Action/Adventure Screenplay
Moving Image is looking for explosive fun and adventure with action packed violence
and behaviour. Think martial arts, kung -fu, gunfire, fire, and all things that blow- up. In
action/adventure we expect to find our heroes, a sense of destiny and sometimes our
spiritual ideals. In the "Action/Adventure Screenplay" category you may want to
consider some of these sub-genres when submitting; high adventure, disaster film,
survival film, martial arts film etc.

7. Best Science-Fiction/Fantasy Screenplay
From worlds beyond our own, where stellar visions and heightened scenery captures
our imagination, Moving Image is searching for screenplays that deliver an outlook
into the outer universe. Reality as we know it is no more, here we can expect to find
work which plays on our sense of reality, space, time and possibilities in advancing
technologies. In the "Science-Fiction/ Fantasy Screenplay" category you may want to
consider some of these sub-genres when submitting; modern epic, action/adventure,
love story, political drama, allegory, social drama, and maturation plot etc.

8. Best Documentary/Mockumentary Screenplay
What is truth? According to Kino Pravda and it's creator Dziga Vertov "film truth - is
fragments of actuality which, when organized together, have a deeper truth that
cannot be seen with the naked eye". In essence this is what docu-dramas and
mockumentaries are all about. Moving Image is looking for screenplays that can
imitate reality in ways that are either subtle or very apparent to the "naked eye". It's
your story, but remember there's no fooling an audience that hasn't been fooled
already - so make sure you're really convincing. In the "Documentary / Mockumentary
Screenplay" category you may want to consider some of these sub-genres when
submitting: historical drama, fiction / non-fiction films autobiographical, biographical,
and documentary films, nature films etc.

9. Best Neo-Noir/Crime Screenplay
In dark places many bad things can happen. Murder, Mystery and Malice are but a few
of the horrible things that can occur. Moving Image is searching for the top
screenplays which can deliver the kinds of stories which we most dread and fear. In
the darkest hours of our lives we sometimes find the most horrifying truths about us
or those around us - these are the kinds of stories that tell it best. In the "Neo-Noir /
Crime Screenplay" category you may want to consider some of these sub -genres
when submitting: murder mystery film, caper film, detective film, gangster film,
revenge tale, courtroom film, newspaper/journalist film, espionage film, prison drama,
film noir, femme fatal etc.

10. Best Music in Motion/ Musical - Screenplay
Music is part of our daily lives. It makes us sing, dance, and sometimes puts us in a
trance. The Moving Image Film Festival wants your "Singing in the Rain" or "Chicago".
But we're also looking for something more. Moving Image is interested in screenplays
that revolve around music in motion. Music in films doesn't have to be musical. We can
have music with films which tell a story through a beat, rhythm, or poetry. Under the
"Music in Motion/ Musical Screenplay" category you may want to consider some of
these sub genres when submitting: Classical Musical, Stage-play Musical, Melodrama,
Music Narrative based Fiction, Music Narrative based Non-fiction. Examples of Music
in Motion can the works of "Daft Punk - Interstella 5555", "The Gorillaz - Celebrity
Breakdown", "Pink Floyd - The Wall", Michael Jackson's - Thriller, Madonna's: Truth or
Dare
